Community
One of the most important lessons that I’ve learned is that the solutions to the challenges we face in our community can be found right here among us. Through my work as a pastor and community organizer, I’ve seen firsthand that when we come together, using our talents, skills, and abilities, we build stronger, healthier communities together. As your Alderman, I will make sure we work together to find solutions to the challenges that we face.
Engagement
Being an informed and engaged citizen shouldn’t feel like a part-time job. It’s even harder to be engaged when public meetings are held during working hours or when you have to seek out what the City Council is doing on your own. It shouldn’t be incumbent upon the residents of the Ward to track down all the information on what the City Council is working on. As your Alderman, I will keep you informed about the issues before the Council and seek out your feedback to be sure that your input and positions are represented, even if you can’t personally attend a City Council or Committee meeting. I will also work to make public meetings more accessible to every resident of Ward 4.
Representation
As I listen to the concerns of people in the 4th Ward, I hear a growing sense of frustration that the City Council is out of touch and making decisions with limited input from residents. People feel unheard, underrepresented, or as though their input isn’t valued. I believe that, whatever your position and whatever your concerns, your input matters. As a member of the Aurora Interfaith Community Liaison Team, I’ve worked to ensure that members of every faith community are heard and valued by the City. As your Alderman, I will work to ensure that your voice is heard and valued by the City, as well.
Economic Development
Ward 4 is home to thriving small businesses. I support the small business owners from our Ward and our city who are working to help revitalize Aurora, and I support the up-and-coming entrepreneurs from our community who are ready to make their mark on our city. I support strong education and job training programs that ensure that everyone has the tools they need to be successful and to help Aurora grow economically.
People First
What makes the 4th Ward great is you! You are the life and breath of our community. Together we will thrive and be successful when each member of our community thrives and is successful. Affordable healthcare, access to good jobs, quality childcare, and equitable education are all foundational to vibrant, thriving communities. As your Alderman, I will work for the elimination of systemic barriers that any member of our community faces because I believe that we’re stronger together.
